Sell them piecemeal and steal them back immediately, then put them in the camp chest with the thief assigned. You can also keep all your artifacts as you research them. If you're just stealing items every once in a while, just put them in the camp chest and asign your thief to it, a companion thief will clear one stack of goods per rest usually. It can be decant as an extra to what you're already selling, mainly though selling stolen stuff after killing some merchants or some such.
